The Story of our Beginning:

DPS International School, Singapore, was founded in 2004 with the objective of meeting a growing need of the Indian expatriate community for a world-class school that incorporates the best practices of Indian and western educational institutions. Our vision of nurturing academic and co-curricular excellence while moulding socially responsible global citizens has helped us to carve a niche for ourselves in the Singapore educational arena. A growing demand for an international curriculum in addition to the one endorsed by the CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations) led to our accreditation from the CAIE (Cambridge Assessment International Education) and we introduced the IGCSE and the A Level curriculum with great success. DPS is the proud recipient of a special letter of commendation from the CAIE, which has reinforced our faith in our team’s vision and plan for attaining greater heights of success and recognition. Our academic achievers have continued our proud tradition of winning accolades in the CAIE as well as CISCE exams, and more than 90% of our students score A* or its equivalent. Many of our students have the unique distinction of achieving the AICE Diploma with Distinction, conferred on those students who opt for subjects drawn from three curriculum areas: mathematics and science, languages, and arts and humanities. Dipsites have been offered seats in highly ranked universities around the world, most notably, NYU Stern School of Business, MIT, NUS among others.

Project/Innovation undertaken by the school:

Developing student leadership skills has been a key focus of the institution and in 2014 a Student Council was instituted in addition to the traditional School and House captaincies offered to students. The DPS Literary Society, Entrepreneur’s Club and Cultural and Co-Curricular Activities Club have ushered a new era of student-led efforts to promote arts activities, charitable drives, literary campaigns and entrepreneurial projects. Members of staff serve as their mentors to facilitate interaction between the school administration and the student body while also enabling them to effectively fulfill their roles and duties.

Best Practices:

Our Student Council members have initiated a host of student-led events and activities with great success. Some of our Student Council members were also selected to attend a three week entrepreneurship programme at the Berkeley Business Academy for Youth and we are proud to nurture the spirit of enterprise and innovation.

The DPS Student Newsletter and Economics Newsletter provides exciting platforms to senior students to exchange their views and ideas. Our students also have the opportunity of having their reports of school events published in the DPS Campus Chatter page of Tabla, a weekly English newspaper that enjoys a nationwide readership. The annual magazine ‘Blossoms’ also has a student editorial team in charge of editing, compiling and designing the volume every year.

Learning beyond the classroom is encouraged as students are taken on educational field trips every month. The subject awareness weeks organized throughout the year also allow students to explore each subject beyond the prescribed curriculum. Dipsites have also been regular participants at the International Friendship Camps and received Best Camper Awards.

Our interactive PTM sessions in the Kindergarten and Primary sections have been highly applauded and we take pride in our close relationship of trust and faith with the parents who are our valued partners in success. We encourage regular interaction and feedback not only via intranet, but also regular meetings and events encouraging parent participation.

Achievements:

Extensive workshops and professional upgradation opportunities available for our faculty, many of whom have opted for CAIE teachers’ training courses and achieved distinctions.

Our students excel in diverse inter-school contests and received awards in prestigious events & competitions such as, the Amazing Science Challenge, Clean & Green Challenge (conducted by the national Environmental Agency), Singapore Racial Harmony Free Media Design, Tales of S (short story competition), and World in Singapore Concert, Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition among others. Our students have the distinction of representing Singapore in sports such as, Karate and Synchronized Swimming.

The greatest testimony of our excellence have been the school visits from heads of departments of local MOE (Ministry of Education)schools and a six month attachment programme (recommended by the MOE) of a Vice Principal of a primary school, who wished to study our pedagogical principles and teaching methodology.

The school has following accreditations:-

Conclusion:

We strive to integrate the competing needs and demands of succeeding in a highly competitive world, while upholding the values that form the foundations of civil society.
